I use my air fryer at least once a day, and one of my favourite things to make is sweet & salty kale chips.  Just 4 ingredients and 10 minutes is all you need to make these crispy kale chips.

Cooking kale chips in the air fryer is the easiest and foolproof way to get the crispest chips every time.  Plus there's no weird ingredients that store bought kale chips can contain - ain't nobody got time for that!

WHAT IS AN AIR FRYER?

An air fryer is a kitchen appliance that uses convection to rapidly circulate hot air around food to cook and crisp it up.  It’s essentially a mini convection oven that fits perfectly on your countertop.

ARE KALE CHIPS HEALTHY

We all know kale is good for us.  It's been touted as the king of super greens for years and is a good source of protein, fibre and Vitamins B, C, A and K.

Making kale into chips still allows you to get all those good qualities, and when made with minimal healthy ingredients, they're definitely a treat you can feel good about.

I think the best way to look at kale chips is that they are a healthier alternative than a packet of potato chips.  Making your own kale chips is also healthier than store bought, which can be laden with strange ingredients and unnecessary sugars.

INGREDIENTS

These kale chips are made with just a handful of healthy, everyday ingredients.  Here's what you'll need (full measurements listed in the printable recipe card below)...

  • Kale
  • Olive Oil
  • Maple Syrup
  • Salt

HOW TO MAKE SWEET & SALTY KALE CHIPS

Wash kale thoroughly and dry.  If you have a salad spinner it makes this part really easy!  Rip the kale leaves away from the stems, and further rip the leaves into whatever size chip your heart desires.

Place the kale leaves in a bowl along with the olive oil and massage the oil into the kale, making sure every piece is thoroughly covered.  Next, add in the maple syrup and repeat.  Season with a little salt.

bowl of massaged kale.

Pour the kale leaves into the preheated air fryer basket.  Slide the basket into the air fryer and cook at 180C / 350F for 2-3 minutes, giving the basket a good shake after every minute.  The kale is done when it is crispy and slightly golden brown.  Pay careful attention during the cooking process as it can burn easily.

HOW DO YOU KEEP KALE CHIPS CRISPY?

I've found that kale chips are never quite as crispy as straight after you make them, so I'd encourage you just to make small batches immediately when you want them rather than making a huge batch to portion out over time.

If you really want to make them ahead of time, be sure to store them in an airtight container at room temperature.

TOP TIPS

  • Be sure to remove the large stems from the kale leaves before cooking.  You can save these to use in stocks and broths.
  • Break up your kale leaves to whatever size you like - I like smaller chips but they can also be larger palm sized pieces if you wish.
  • Keep a close eye on the chips while they are cooking and shake the basket regularly - these chips can burn easily.
  • For the most crispiest kale chips, eat immediately!
  • I've made this recipe purposely as a small batch as I believe kale chips are best eaten immediately after cooking.  The serve will be good for 1-2, but you can easily double or triple the recipe to feed more.

For me, this Peanut Butter Eggs recipe is a holiday staple—not just for Easter. It’s my ultimate comfort treat that shows up during every festive season, including the run-up to Christmas. I hope that’s not weird 😆😁.

They've got that nostalgic chocolate-peanut butter combo everyone loves, but with a homemade twist that makes them even better. Plus, you can dip and drizzle them in any chocolate you like—dark, white, milk—and decorate them to look just like colourful eggs.

Nutella Brownies

Honestly, I first tried making these on a whim. A friend and I were having a lazy weekend baking session, and we had a jar of chocolate hazelnut spread lying around. We decided to see what happened if we added it to our brownie batter.

100g brown sugar
50g granulated sugar
2 eggs
2 teaspoons vanilla extract
200g Nutella

Still recovering from the nightmare of being force-fed stinky and bitter boiled brussels sprouts as a child? Never fear - these Crispy Brussels Sprouts with Bacon will turn even the most adamant brussels sprouts hater around.

Brussels sprouts really shine when oven roasted - crisp and caramelised on the outside and tender on the inside. Not to mention how simple it is - throw everything on a tray in the oven for 25 minutes and voila!

Maybe it’s because of the cute color—my kids really love carrots. Especially when they’re roasted with potatoes, the kids go wild for it… well, their dad too, haha. But I’m worried they’ll get bored, so I try to look for different recipe variations where carrots are the main ingredient.

Mexican Chicken Salad Full Recipe 🌯🥗: https://www.cookitrealgood.com/mexican-chicken-salad/

I love Mexican food, so it's no surprise that one of my favourite salads is Mexican inspired. This Mexican Chicken Salad is full of good-for-you ingredients and is filling enough to be a complete meal on its own. The chicken is juicy and bursting with flavour.

It's on the table in 15 minutes. Yes, you heard right - 15 minutes! This does require a little multi-tasking, like chopping salad ingredients while waiting for the chicken breast to cook. But totally doable.

Gigi Hadid Pasta 🫕🍴

Maybe this is the closest I’ll ever get to Gigi Hadid, hahaha. This Gigi Hadid Pasta is actually just a version of the classic Italian-American dish, penne alla vodka. But back during the Covid era, Gigi Hadid shared the recipe on her social media, and ever since then, everyone’s been calling it Gigi Hadid Pasta.

Plus, it's super simple to make with minimum prep time, so even if you're not a pro in the kitchen, you've got this.

Here's what you'll need to make this recipe:

8 ounces or 225 grams of pasta (like penne)
2 tablespoons olive oil
2 cloves garlic, finely minced
1 small shallot, chopped (or red onion)
¼ cup tomato paste
2 tablespoons vodka (optional)
½ cup heavy cream
1 teaspoon chilli flakes (or add red pepper flakes)
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon black pepper
¼ cup Parmesan cheese, freshly grated
1 tablespoon butter
A handful of fresh basil for garnish
