Hash Brown in Air Fryer

Honestly, I used to feel a bit lazy about getting creative with hash browns. I was perfectly happy eating them with eggs or jam, without doing anything fancy to the bread. Why bother, right? Better to relax and watch old-school songs on YouTube, reminiscing about my teenage years 😆.
These hash browns in air fryer are super easy to make! You simply toss them in some oil and seasoning and pile them in the air fryer. They turn out incredibly crispy around the edges with a tender inside.
There are many different directions to take this recipe. This isn’t something you can only pair with savory topping. In the mood for something sweet? Just switch up the pairing!
WHAT TYPES OF HASH BROWNS ARE THERE?
There are some different types of frozen hash browns:
- Hash Brown Patties: These are the traditional patties you’d expect to get at McDonalds. Also, they’re large and rectangular with a crispy outside and a soft potato inside.
- Shredded Potato Hash Browns: These are a bit trickier to cook in the air fryer but take roughly the same time as patties.
- Cauliflower Hash Browns: They’re a mix of potatoes and cauliflower with minimal spices. If you’re on a migraine diet, these are great for reintroducing onion powder in your life.
- Southern Style Frozen Hash Browns: These are small-chopped potatoes that go perfectly with shallots and peppers. Also, you can season them with paprika and garlic powder for the flavor.
WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF HASH BROWNS?
- They count as vegetables! Yes, you read that right! Their main ingredient is shredded potato, with minimal add-ins like salt or seasoning. Packed with antioxidants, fiber, and potassium, hash browns are a healthy choice to start your morning.
- They fit most diets. Whether following a vegan, vegetarian, flexitarian, gluten-free, or whole-food plant-based diet, hashbrowns in the air fryer are the perfect solution.
- They’re family-friendly and delicious. If you have a picky eater at home, this recipe is a great way to fit some veggies into their diet. Most adults and kids love a plate of them drizzled with ketchup!
- The clean-up is easy. No need for complicated cookware, no sticky stuff, so cleanup is quick too.
CAN YOU COOK FROZEN HASH BROWNS IN AN AIR FRYER?
You can easily cook frozen hash browns directly in an air fryer without waiting for them to thaw. Since their moisture is evenly absorbed during the freezing process, your hash browns will likely turn out even crispier when air-fried.
For the perfect hash browns in the air fryer, we recommend a temperature of 375°F/190°C for 11 minutes on each side. You’ll hear a light crunch when you bite into the edges. The center stays soft, almost like mashed potatoes.
